Marvelous Mid-Atlantic Region!

On behalf of the members of the Marvelous Mid-Atlantic Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, welcome! For 65 years, the Mid-Atlantic Region has grown and developed into a magnificent vessel for Alpha Kappa Alpha, with over 130 chapters throughout the state of North Carolina and the Commonwealth of Virginia. With over 12,000 members and a total 133 chapters, we are proud to carry on the legacy of our founders through sisterhood and service.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is the oldest Greek-lettered organization founded by nine visionary African American young women at Howard University in 1908. For over 114 years, the sorority has boldly fulfilled its mission to be of “Service to All Mankind.” That commitment extends well beyond the undergraduate years of sorority membership, as demonstrated by our Silver, Golden and Diamond members still serving their chapters and their communities with over 25, 50 and 75 years of active membership, respectively. Together, over 100,000 active sorority members in more than 1,024 chapters worldwide are making a positive impact on the lives of individuals, families, children and those in underserved communities. From Arlington, VA to Abu Dhabi, Alpha Kappa Alpha women are engaged in meaningful programs that improve the lives of our citizens and people around the world.

Under the leadership of our 30th International President Dr. Glenda Baskin Glover, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® continues to be at the forefront of national and global issues that affect education, women’s health, and economic mobility. We believe that you must “be the change you want to see in the world” and we’re committed to addressing human and civil rights as well as social issues that impact us all. The sorority’s 2018-2022 international program Exemplifying Excellence through Sustained Service will address these issues with activities and initiatives under the following targets:

Alpha Kappa Alpha members recognize the power of the organized capacity of people to make a difference in their communities. We invite you to join us as a valued partner in service as we implement programs and activities in the communities we serve. We’re excited about the many opportunities these programs offer where we all can have a positive impact on the world around us.
