Alpha Kappa Alpha’s (AKA) Housing Foundation is a community enterprise that focuses on providing housing and other civic needs including, but not limited to, assisting college and professional students with housing accommodations; providing housing for the elderly and low- and moderate-income families displaced by urban renewal or natural disaster; and engaging in community outreach projects.
Since 1966, the Foundation has been true to its original mission and provides funds as well as implements and participates in both short- and long-range projects.
The Alpha Kappa Alpha Housing Foundation is managed by a Board of Directors who meet annually in July, or more regularly by special meeting, if necessary. The Housing Foundation Meeting is open to all stakeholders to discuss the status of all associated projects and programs.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s International President, International First Vice President, and International Secretary hold the same positions within the Housing Foundation. The Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer are administratively assigned to the Housing Foundation.
Annually, the active membership of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority contributes $1 of per capita per member to this fund. Additional sources of the Housing Foundation income are derived from public and private donations, grants, sponsorships, and corporate fundraising. The Foundation disposes its income through the decisions made by its Board of Directors.
