Born in Saginaw, Michigan on July 8, 1921, Margaret attended Saginaw schools graduating from Arthur Hill High School. She went on to attend Bay City Junior College. She completed her undergraduate studies at Western Michigan College of Education (now Western Michigan University) and received her Master of Arts degree from Michigan State University.

Margaret embarked on her teaching career in Saginaw in 1941. As her career advanced, she went on to work in the Lansing School District for 35 years in many capacities including principal and personnel consultant. She is credited with diversifying the District by personally recruiting teachers of color, many of whom were chapter members. After retirement Soror Margaret volunteered as an after-school tutor.

She was a member and an Elder of North Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 60 years and served on the board of Advent House Ministries Inc. for over 30 years.

In addition to the sorority, her church and Advent House Ministries, Margaret actively served on the Board of the Northwest Initiative, Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, the Lansing Woman’s Club, The Zonta Club of Lansing and the Lansing Area African American Genealogical Society (LAAAGS). In 2012, she deservingly received the Ingham County Women’s Commission’s Lucile E. Belen Everyday Heroine Award. Soror Margaret will be greatly missed!
