Undergraduate Roundup & Leadership Conference Highlighted Outstanding Achievement
September 13, 2021Great Lakes Regional Director Soror Carrie J. Clark connected with under- graduates at her final Undergraduate Roundup under her administration. The 2021 Undergraduate Roundup & Leader- ship Conference was held on October 30, 2021, and over 400 members were in at- tendance for an entire day of workshops.
City of Stow Ohio Names Lodge in Honor of Soror Leona Farris
October 25, 2021Leona Farris was honored by the City of Stow, Ohio with the renaming of Silver Springs Lodge as the Leona Farris Lodge. The city is planning minor exterior renovations to the building, which will feature a timeline of Farris’ life and accomplishments inside the lodge. The city has also established a new scholarship in her name, The Leona Farris Scholarship, which is planned as a $1,000 annual scholarship for students who are dedicated to DEI (Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion) work. The scholarship will be administered through the Stow Schools Foundation.
One Love Tour Celebrates the Work of the Great Lake Region
October 1, 2021“Rise Up” Administration and Great Lakes Regional Director Carrie J. Clark toured all clusters, Western New York, Northern Ohio/Western Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virgin- ia and Southern Ohio between Oct. 1-31, expressing appreciation and accomplishment in these last three years, especially during a pandemic. Soror Carrie recognizes Sorors in the Great Lakes efforts and hard work visiting each Cluster during October called the “One Love Tour!”
The Great Lakes Region Welcomes Two New Chapters
November 21, 2021This fall, the Great Lakes Region welcomed a new un- dergraduate chapter and a new graduate chapter. Up- silon Lambda Chapter was chartered on November 21, 2021, at Buffalo State Col- lege in Buffalo, New York. In addition, at the ceremo- ny, 12 undergraduate stu- dents were initiated into the Sorority.

University of Dayton dedicates NPHC Legacy Terrace
September 25, 2021DAYTON, OH — On September 25, the University of Dayton dedicated the NPHC Legacy Terrace home to the new NPHC monuments. This monumental occasion makes the University of Dayton the first non-HBCU in the state of Ohio to officially complete a project of this kind. Current members of Phi Psi Omega; Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life Alexandra Smith (Epsilon Chi alum 2013 & UD grad 2014) and original monument propos- al committee member Jordyn Mitchell (Epsilon Chi alum 2017 & UD grad 2020) played an integral role in the comple- tion of this project.
Prayers for Benton Harbor
September 22, 2021By now, you have likely heard about the water crisis facing Benton Harbor, Michigan. Similar to the crisis in Flint some years ago, Benton Harbor is a predominantly African American community where neglected lead pipes are seeping high levels of lead into the water. For young children, consuming lead-tainted water can lead to brain damage and even death.
Carrie J. Clark, Great Lakes Regional Director, has been in touch with the Iota Iota Omega Chapter basileus in the Benton Harbor area. The chapter is working hard to help area agencies address the need for bottled water. There are reports of long lines at some distribution areas
Congratulations Great Lakes Region for Making HBCU Impact Day a Success
October 2, 2021In the fourth and final quarter, Great Lakes sorors helped score $1 Million for our nation’s beloved Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) during HBCU Impact Day on September 20. Sorors from across the region joined sorors and supporters from around the world by donating to the AKA HBCU Endowment Fund.
Great Lakes Region donates 2,000 books to Cincinnati area schools
September 11, 2021Cincinnati, OH – In recogni- tion of the 20th anniversary of the September 11 tragedy and the National Day of Service and Remembrance, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporat- ed®, Great Lakes Region dis- tributed over 2,000 children’s books to schools in the Cin- cinnati, Princeton and Winton Woods School Districts.
First-ever Virtual Event “One Cluster, One Region, One Sisterhood” Was a Huge Success

The One Cluster Confer- ence sought to reconnect, rejuvenate, and reinvest in our knowledge and under- standing of the Great Lakes Region and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority events.
