Ms. Sonya L. Bowen, initiated into Epsilon Rho Chapter in 1987 at Purdue University, is a Life Member and Silver Soror with 31 years of uninterrupted service. Ms. Bowen holds a Master of Science in Management with a dual option in Finance and Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. She is a member of Lambda Tau Omega Chapter in Matteson, Illinois where she previously served as the youngest President, Vice President, Treasurer, Assistant Financial Secretary, and Parliamentarian. She has also served as Central Region’s Protocol Chairman from 2010-2014, General Chairman of the 68th Central Regional Conference and a member of the 2014-2018 International Protocol Committee.
At the 2018 Central Regional Conference, she was elected Regional Director. Ms. Bowen is a Senior Research Administrator for the Department of Neurology at Northwestern University, where she is responsible for the administration of a grant portfolio comprised of approximately $15 million. Soror Bowen is an active member of Twenty Pearls Foundation, Incorporated, the Bronzeville Children Museum’s Women Board, Purdue Alumni Association, Purdue Black Alumni Association and Faith Movers Church. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Ms. Bowen currently resides in Richton Park, Illinois.
As a Christian and an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman on the go, her motto is “Treat others as you would want them to treat you,” and she truly believes in what is stated in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”
